Rhode Island Deer Season 2026-27: Dates, Zones & What to Know
RI's 2026-27 deer seasons: archery Sept. 15-Jan. 31, muzzleloader Nov. 7-Dec. 4, shotgun Dec. 5-31. Zone-by-zone dates, permits and rules.
Rhode Island's 2026-27 deer seasons are published by RIDEM in its annual hunting abstract. Archery opens September 15 in both Zone 1 and Zone 2 and runs through January 31, 2027; muzzleloader runs November 7 – December 4; and shotgun runs December 5 – 31. One thing to get straight up front: Rhode Island does not give Zone 1 and Zone 2 different dates for any of these seasons — what differs between the two zones is the antlerless bag limit, not the calendar.
01Rhode Island Deer Season Dates, 2026-27
These are RIDEM's published season dates for the 2026-27 year.
| Season | Zones 1 and 2 |
|---|---|
| Youth archery | Sept. 12 – 13, 2026 |
| Archery (incl. crossbow) | Sept. 15, 2026 – Jan. 31, 2027 |
| Youth muzzleloader | Oct. 31 – Nov. 1, 2026 |
| Muzzleloader | Nov. 7 – Dec. 4, 2026 |
| Shotgun | Dec. 5 – 31, 2026 |
Muzzleloaders are permitted during the shotgun season provided you hold a current shotgun deer permit and comply with the muzzleloader restrictions.
Zone 3 (Patience and Prudence Islands): youth archery October 17 – 18, then archery October 19, 2026 – January 31, 2027. A special season for disabled hunters runs October 13 – 16. Proficiency testing is required.
Zone 4 (Block Island): a day-by-day calendar rather than continuous seasons. Archery-only days are October 15, 16, 19 – 23 and 26 – 30. Combined archery, muzzleloader and shotgun days run November 2 – 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 19, 20, 23, 24 and 30; December 1, 3, 4, 7 – 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 21 and 22; January 4 – 8, 11 – 15, 19 – 22 and 25 – 29, 2027; and February 1 – 5 and 8 – 12, 2027. Block Island also requires special permits, counter-signed landowner permission, and a lottery for the state land at Black Rock/Rodman Hollow.

02Zones, Permits and the Basics
Zone 1 is the suburban ring (Providence metro, South County coast, Aquidneck); Zone 2 is the rural western towns plus Tiverton and Little Compton. Deer permits are required for each deer. Statewide, no hunter may take more than two antlered deer per year across all zones and methods combined, and no more than one of those may come from Zone 3. Antlerless limits are set per zone — three in Zone 1, two in Zone 2, two in Zone 3, and unlimited in Zone 4 — and a hunter may take each zone's limit within that zone, cumulative across all weapons and seasons. Written landowner permission is mandatory on private land and must be carried while hunting. All harvests must be reported within 24 hours, and during the first two days of muzzleloader and shotgun seasons deer must be brought to a state biological check station. Also note two Rhode Island quirks: natural cervid urine lures are banned, and baiting is prohibited statewide.
03Check the official source
The dates above are RIDEM's published 2026-27 season dates, read from DEM's annual hunting abstract — the field-ready version of record. RIDEM reissues that abstract every year and can amend the underlying regulations mid-season; the Block Island day list, the Zone 3 permit rules and the per-zone antlerless limits are the parts most likely to move. Confirm your dates, the Block Island calendar and any amendments before you hunt, in the abstract and in the official RI hunting and trapping regulations (250-RICR-60-00-9) or on the RI DEM hunting page. Those documents govern where they disagree with anything on this page. Hunting a day that is not on the list — on Block Island especially, where the calendar is day-by-day — is a citation.

04Plan the Season
Four and a half months of archery is the longest deer opportunity in New England — the question is which sits actually produce:
- Rhode Island Rut Prediction 2026 — when we expect peak chasing in Rhode Island's small-parcel country, and why the Nov. 7 muzzleloader opener is so well timed.
- Rhode Island Solunar Calendar — feeding windows for any day of the long archery season.
- Best Time to Hunt Today in Rhode Island — free, live conditions score for today.
- Hunt Forecast — Trail Pro Intel's free Hunt Forecast rates your exact stand by wind, pressure, temperature and solunar overlap. On tight suburban parcels where you get one clean entry route, hunting the right day matters more than hunting often.
Small state, long season, strict paperwork. Get permission slips signed and permits bought early, then let the rut and the forecast pick your days.
